We get some fantastic (and admittedly, pretty darn funny) questions from new small businesses hiring us to build and take care of their websites. Many of our clients come to us after their first attempt at getting a small business website done (usually low budget) didn’t go well, or they’ve had the same website for a long time before they hire us to help them work through a website upgrade. Here are 4 of my personal favorite questions from our new clients.

1. Do you outsource to India?

Umm, no. Sadly for their budgets, many of our current clients come to us after experiencing this issue. Usually, it’s when they’ve gone with a cheap too-good-to-be-true website price. Unfortunately, they soon see why once they get started. This particular client had a horror story of getting back content to review for their website that appeared to be computer-made gibberish. Turns out it wasn’t computer automation – it was outsourced to a foreign country, then the developer never bothered to review it before sending it on to this client. Yikes.

2. What happens to my website if you get hit by a bus?

Ha. Fair question. First, Lawton Digital clients always have master access to their sites. Second, I do most of the talking to clients right now, but I work with a team. They’d help you if I kicked the bucket early. Third, I look both ways before I cross the street.

To my client who asked me this: I quote your question in new website maintenance program sales conversations.

3. So my new website will be #1 on Google? (from potential new website client)

If I could do that as a standard part of a new website build, I’d have Google asking me how I pulled it off. I’d also be able to afford my own private space station, with a butler. 2 butlers. And if I could do that, I would have single-handedly ended SEO globally as a full-time career path.

4. Do you use the same designs and content for all of your clients?

LoL no. We never do that. Each website is priced, developed, and launched with unique designs tailored to your specific small business’s brand and customer profile.

Never ever go with a developer who offers to use templated content and duplicate designs! If it looks like everyone else’s, you will not ever show up on Google search. And no-one is going to read website content that sounds like everyone else’s, so you may as well just not have it at all if you’re not going to have it uniquely written. If you don’t like doing it yourself, we can work together with a copywriter to write unique content that tells your company story and sells your services to your potential customers.
